How Rips Work
The vault
Every card in every pack is a real graded slab stored in a secure, insured third-party vault. Here's how cards get in and how they're verified.
Every card that can come out of a pack is a real graded slab that is already in the vault when you buy. Slabs are stored in a secure, insured third-party vault. Nothing is sourced after the fact.
How a card gets in
A card is only addable once it has been graded by PSA, CGC or BGS and sealed in its slab. Our team adds it in one of two ways:
- By scan — high-resolution photos of the front and back of the slab, with the certification number read off the label.
- By certification number — entered directly, in bulk, for a batch of slabs.
Either way the same checks then run automatically:
- Verify the cert. We look the certification number up with the grading company itself. If the company has no record of it, the card does not enter the vault.
- Identify the card. The verified details — set, card, number, grade — are matched against our catalogue of English Pokémon cards.
- Price it. We attach the current market value for that exact card at that exact grade.
Only after all three does the slab become available — eligible to be placed into a pack.
Why this matters to you
It means the chances you are shown are chances against a real, finite pool. When a tier says a rung is possible, there are specific slabs in the vault sitting in that rung. The verification endpoint will even show you the exact candidate set your card was drawn from, and its contents hash.
About the prices you see
Card values shown across the platform are aggregated from multiple third-party sources and are for information only. We do not guarantee they are accurate, complete or current, and what a card would actually fetch if you sold it elsewhere may differ. Market prices move; a card's displayed value will move with them, both up and down.
